German Funding
Funding in Germany is provided mainly via the federal government (e.g. BMBF and DFG) offering research grants for individual and collaborative Institutional Proposals. The focus of Grants can be the theme, Investigator, Forum, or Infrastructure. Saxon specific sources include the Saxon Science ministry (SMWK) or the Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB).
European and International Funding
Within the Horizon Europe Framework the European Research Council (ERC) provides research contracts through various calls including Starting, Consolidator, Advanced, Proof of concept, and Synergy Grants. They differ in funding volume, duration, and the track record of applicants. The EIC provides funding for basic collaborative research through the Pathfinder program. The HFSP funds collaboration in innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems.
