How do we want to live and what constitutes a good life? This question was in the focus of a survey of 15- to 35-year-olds in Saxony that the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD) carried out last autumn. The results of the survey are the basis of the exhibition ‘The Invention of the Future or the search for the good life’ at Japanisches Palais Dresden, which reacts to current challenges of our time by presenting selected art treasures. In the exhibition, important social debates of our time are discussed: Are the earth’s resources sufficient for us all? How can we protect the environment and nature? And what role does social cohesion play?
Moreover, artists offer practical advice for future actions. For example, the Berlin project group REINIGUNGSGESELLSCHAFT has created an installation from old MPI-CBG laboratory furniture that will be transformed into think tanks in workshops with young people to discuss science and its role in society with scientists from the MPI-CBG in the workshops.
The exhibition is open from May 10 to November 3, 2019 in the Japanisches Palais Dresden of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. Sponsor of the exhibition is the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe.
