Helen Pynor- Artist in residence 2015
Sydney-based artist Helen Pynor is exploring life-death borderlands. For the next three months, she is working at the MPI-CBG as artist in residence. She is hosted in the lab of Jochen Rink and will explore whether it is possible to cultivate fibroblast cells from chicken meat that is bought at a supermarket. If the chicken cells will indeed start to grow in the petri dish, this would be a sign that they are still somehow alive. If that is successful, Helen and Jochen want to explore whether it’s possible to convert the cells back into pluripotent stem cells.
Helen is planning an installation work based on the residency outcomes for a gallery in Sydney and venues in Europe. Her work is funded by the Australia Council for the Arts. We are looking forward to the results!
