The 18th Dresden Science Night (Dresdner Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften) is welcoming everyone virtually on July 9, 2021. Immerse with us in the world of science! During the Dresden Science Night, universities, non-university research institutions and science-related companies usually open their buildings, laboratories, lecture halls and archives to the public. This year this will happen virtually.
At the MPI-CBG, we will show you two videos: Discover the exciting biochemistry behind light and fluorescence in this demonstration. Eric Geertsma will make a lamp from bacteria, show you how fireflies brighten their nights, and you can hear how a jellyfish-disco let to a Noble-price! In another clip, you can learn about miniature organ models (organoids). The research group around MPI-CBG director Anne Grapin-Botton developed a 3D method to grow pancreas organoids from stem cells. This model is used to understand how genes predispose to diabetes and may help find new therapeutic avenues for treating diabetes. Watch Anne and her PhD student Rashmiparvathi Keshara, talking about their research goals and the life as a scientist.
