A state-of-the-art research institute in the molecular life sciences requires a broad range of diverse technologies. Many of the cutting edge technologies need well-trained and dedicated staff in order to extract the maximum potential from the technology. It is this background that encouraged the MPI-CBG to centralize as many techniques as possible into core services and facilities that are available to all research scientists in the Institute. Moreover, this structure facilitates cost savings via its economy of resources. 

The Antibody Service provides a centralized resource and state-of-the-art technology for the production, purification and labeling of polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies.

It is the Computer Department’s goal to provide innovative services and not just basic support. We are dedicated to providing fast and flexible solutions to aid in the advancement of scientific research. We will continue to study and progress in our own discipline so that we can supply the latest technology to the Institute community.

The DNA sequencing and genotyping service provides Sequencing services and support, and routine genotyping of model organisms used in the institute such as mouse, zebrafish, and Drosophila making use of state of the art technologies.

The Electron Microscopy (EM) Facility provides resources, technology and expertise for studying the ultrastructure of cryo-immobilized and chemically fixed biological samples.

The TransgeneOmics Unit will provide a platform for high throughput transgenesis in the main model organisms used in the Institute (mammalian cells, C. elegans, Drosophila and zebrafish).

The major goal of the High-Throughput Technology Development Studio (TDS) is to provide expertise in assay development towards high-throughput applications and high content screening services (HCS). To this end the HT-TDS has state-of-the-art technologies for cell-based screening such as robotic liquid handling stations, plate readers and several automated microscopes.

The role of Laboratory Management (including Instrument Repair Service and Workshops) is to facilitate the spectrum of scientific activities in our Institute. We oversee the smooth operation of all laboratories to ensure that the laboratories at MPI-CBG are suitably equipped and in good working order to support the scientific activities of our research groups and core facilities.

The MPI-CBG library provides comprehensive literature and information services to all MPI-CBG members and guests. The librarian acquires, archives and provides access to scientific information in all publication and media formats, related to the research activities of the institute, and supports the scientific work via an optimal supply of literature.

The mission of the Light Microscopy Facility (LMF) is to provide access to state-of-the-art light microscopy techniques and instruments along with vision toward future trends. We assist through consultation, training and project collaborations.

The Media Technologies and Outreach Group (MTO) bundles expertise enhancing the external and internal communication of the Institute. The mission of the Office of Technology Transfer is to provide information and assistance for finding the best way to rapidly exploit research results and transfer know-how from the academic environment of MPI-CBG to applied research in the business community. In addition, we help ensure access to and sharing of materials (e.g. plasmids, antibodies, vectors, transgenic mouse strains etc) from or with other institutes around the world.

The Scientific Computing Facility provides a unified service to assist researchers in the tackling of scientific questions involving computational analysis, data handling and image processing. We combine expertise in bioinformatics data analysis, bioimage analysis and software development to produce robust workflows, algorithms and tools for the analysis, exploration and visualization of large complex datasets of mixed datatypes.

The Transgenic Core Facility (TCF) provides a centralized resource and state-of-the-art technology for the production of knock-out mice by injection or aggregation of embryonic stem cells into mouse embryos, and transgenic mice by injection of DNA into the pronucleus of mouse oocytes.
